Botox Aftercare - What Are the Best Practices for Botox Aftercare?

Updated: Aug 24, 2024

To ensure the very best results for your botox treatment its important that you follow the aftercare instructions carefully:

Redness, swelling and tenderness to the treatment area is normal following toxin injections but should disappear within 3 days.

Be Patient:

Botox takes between 3-14 days to take full effect please be patient and allow the full time for the product to take effect no adjustments can be made to your treatment until 14 days following treatment. During this time you may find some unevenness with the Botox results which often even themselves out or can be adjusted at your botox review.

On the day of treatment:

  • Do not bend forward or lie down for 4 hours following treatment, this is to ensure the botox fully settles into the injected areas and does not disperse outside of these areas.

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area

  • Return to normal activity but avoid exercise for 24 hours following treatment.

  • Avoid makeup for the rest of the day

  • Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and painkillers for 24 hours following treatment as this increases swelling and bruising

  • Do not get any facial treatments following the procedure including but not limited to eyelash extensions, brow lamination, facial massage and facials as these can all cause the spread of toxin to unwanted areas.

  • If you have had botox in your forehead you must avoid wearing tight headwear for 4 hours following treatment so that you do not push the toxin to unwanted area.

Exercise:

  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours following treatment as it increases the blood flow which can cause the toxin to spread to unwanted areas.

  • It can decrease the effectiveness of the toxin along with increasing the risk of swelling and bruising.

Sun:

  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 to 28 hours following treatment.

  • Avoid Sunbeds for 7 days following treatment.

Review:

  • Like all aesthetic treatments, the human body can be unpredictable. If there are any concerns or adjustments required following your treatment a review can be booked in.

  • Botox reviews MUST be booked within 14 to 18 days of treatment, any reviews booked outside of this time will result in you being charged full initial treatment amount.

  • As you will require more botox to adjust your treatment and the initial vial of botox used for your treatment will have degraded so will no longer be able to be used for your review.

Pain Management:

  • Occasionally patients may experience a slight headache and soreness following treatment which can be managed with paracetamol if required.

If you have any concerns please contact Caroline directly to discuss them.
